1. First and foremost: Schedule your marriage license!!

If you’re marrying in a church, the vicar or priest will have asked you all sorts of questions when you met with him in order for him to complete your marriage licence at your ceremony. If you’ve chosen a civil ceremony however, you have to make sure that all the details are sorted and scheduled for your big day with the registrar for the council.

The registry office should help you with this process but make sure you are all prepared and everything is in place for your scheduled ceremony before the big day.

2. Take a visit to a jewellers – or scour a chosen online jewellery website and pick those wedding rings.

Wedding rings obviously one of the most important aspect of any wedding. Whatever rings you decide upon when looking with your partner, remember that these are to be worn forever. Make sure you are happy with how it feels on your finger, make sure it represents your marriage and commitment. Also make sure it matches with your engagement ring. It is always a good idea to have a long think about what type of wedding ring you think you’d like and the type of material you’d like for your ring.

Johnsons Jewellers offering a personalised service with assistance from our expert team to help you choose the perfect wedding ring for you and your partner.

3. Start making or buying those all-important wedding favours.

These little take-home tokens of appreciation given to your guests are often left until the last minute, so try not to leave them right til the wire otherwise you might be found panicking!

Think about items that will not only be a nice keepsake for your guests but have an element of you as a couple to them. Decorate, practical or tasty, the choice is yours – and nowadays it’s just as easy to make your party favours (unless you have hundreds attending!) than buy them.

Here are some examples of wedding favours people have used in the past, to give you a little bit of inspiration:

    1. - The traditional sugar coated almonds
    2. - Sweetie jars
    3. - Chocolates with the name of the big day and the couple attached
    4. - Wine glass tags
    5. - Photo frames
    6. - Personalised sweets
    7. - Candles
    8. - Bottles of bubbles

4. Meet with your photographer and provide a list of required shots that you want taking through the day

You’ve chosen a wedding photographer, but now it’s time to make a list of the shots you’re going to want to keep for years to come. Discuss this with your partner and think of those pictures that will last a lifetime.

When you’ve met with your photographer, make sure you leave a shot list of the definitive photographs they must get on the big day – this way they won’t have to interrupt you on the day and you can relax in the knowledge that your day is being documented just the way you want it to be.

5. Confirm delivery time and locations with florist

Another one of the very important points for your day is the flowers for your wedding. By now I’m sure you’ve chosen the types of flowers you desire; the colours and how many bouquets are required, all of this will be in the capable hands of your florist.

It would be wise to make sure that on the week of your wedding that you check in with the florist so they know the time they need to be at the ceremony location for on the big day to set up so you don’t have to worry about getting calls from them on the day.

6. Confirm wedding day transportation

It sounds obvious but it’s extremely important that your wedding day transportation arrives at the right time to take you and your bridesmaids to the ceremony. Make sure they know the number of people they are taking, where they are going and what time to be there, and what time the ceremony is expected to finish to make sure that your transportation goes without a hitch (pardon the pun).

7. Finalise your seating plan.

The seating plan probably started back when you sent out your Save the Dates, now the RSVPs from your invitations are in and you’ve mapped out where you want everyone. Now’s the time to take into consideration any cancellations and finalise that plan, so you can hopefully put it to bed before the big day.

8. Collect wedding gown, bridesmaid, flower girl dresses and accessories!

Don’t forget the dress and the bling! The week of the wedding will be extremely busy but one thing you must make a priority is that your wedding dress, bridesmaid dresses and all your wedding jewellery is collected with plenty of time to spare.
