Aquamarine

Aquamarine is a light blue gemstone, it has a hardness of 7.5 to 8 and can change colour dependent on heat. Some people see aquamarine as representing happiness, hope and youth. In the past it was said to protect those who travel by water. Aquamarine can vary from a pale blue to vivid, intense blue this means it can vary in price and can fit most budgets.


 

 


Amethyst

Amethyst is a purple gemstone which is part of the quartz family, when iron is within the crystal structure gives it the purple colour, the amount of iron will vary the colour between light and dark. It has a hardness of 7. This stone is seen to represent understanding, trust and grace as well as balancing emotions. On a physical level some people say amethyst has healing properties as well as calming your dreams.



 


Chocolate Diamonds

Although diamonds are famous for being a beautiful colourless stone they can actually be found in a variety of colours. Chocolate diamonds are brown tinted diamonds, they are the most commonly occurring diamonds. The colour comes from internal irregularities during their formation. They are usually used as cutting products however in recent years they have been made into jewellery.



 

 


Yellow Diamonds

Yellow diamonds are one of the most popular fancy diamond colours. The yellow colour comes from nitrogen that gets attached during the formation process, the amount of nitrogen can vary the intensity of the colour, they can range from a pale yellow to a bright vivid yellow. When worn within an engagement ring they symbolize love, happiness and optimism.

 



 

 

 


Emerald

Emerald is a green gemstone which has a hardness of 7.5-8. Emerald is one of the “big three” of coloured stones alongside ruby and sapphire, these 3 stones are said to generate more economic activity than all other coloured stones combined. Emerald is seen as “The Jewel of Kings” as it has been loved by royalty all the way back to Cleopatra. However, it also is seen as a symbol of luck and growth.



 

 

 


Tanzanite

Tanzanite is a blue to violet gemstone, it has a harness of 6-6.5 this means its recommended to be worn in earrings or a pendant as to not get damaged or worn in a ring as a dress ring, not for everyday wear. As for its meaning its seen to symbolize truth, judgement and longevity but may also represent intellect and intuition.



 

 

 


Pearl

Pearl is a gemstone which occurs naturally in the body of mollusks, they come in many different hues however the most popular is white or cream. They have a hardness of 2.5 to 4.5 so you should take extra care not to scratch them. They are seen to offer protection, attract good luck and symbolize wisdom gained through experience.


 

 

 


Ruby

Ruby is a red gemstone which has a hardness of 9 which makes it durable for jewellery and everyday wear. It is one of the most popular traditional gemstones alongside sapphire and emerald, a ruby of high quality are some of the most expensive coloured gemstones. It symbolizes romantic love as well as inspires devotion so can be a perfect stone for an engagement ring.



 

 

 


Sapphire

Sapphire is a deep blue gemstone with a hardness of 9 which makes it very durable for jewellery. Sapphire is seen to symbolize romance, truth and bring good luck. It used to be the go to stone for engagment rings but was overtaken by diamonds in the 20th century however it has become increasingly popular again, especially since Princess Diana famously had one.


 

 

 


Morganite

Morganite is a pink or orange gemstone with a hardness of 7.5 to 8. Due to its soft pink colour it is closely associated with innocence, sweetness, romance and love. It is said to be the second most popular non-diamond stone, after sapphire.


 

 

 


Peridot

Peridot is a yellowish-green gemstone and is one of the few gemstones that only appear in that colour. It has a hardness of 6.5-7. It is seen as a symbol of prosperity and good fortune as well as being known as the “stone of compassion”.
