When should you buy your rings?

Don’t wait until the last minute to shop for your wedding bands, you may need time for them to be sized, engraved or the one you want to be ordered, so to make sure they’ll be ready for when you exchange vows don’t wait. Start looking even earlier if you may want a bespoke design or one that fits perfectly with your engagement ring. If you want something bespoke it may be best to start looking 6+ months in advance however if you want an off the shelf ring, then it is still best to look 3-4 month before your special day.

How much should you spend on your rings?

There is no exact price guide for how much you should spend as it will depend on what you’re looking for, what metal you want, if you want stones and if you want a bespoke piece. However, when looking at pricing it is important to keep in mind you will cherish this piece of jewellery as a symbol of you and your partners everlasting commitment to each other so you must love it and it needs to be durable enough to last forever.

Which precious metal should I choose?

Which metal you choose is up to you however you should consider how much you’ll want to wear your ring, for example if you like the look of white gold it may be best to choose a platinum ring as they both have that same colour but the white gold, after a lot of wear, will start to a have a yellow hue to it whereas the platinum will keep its colour and shine for longer. Traditionally wedding bands were made of metals such as yellow gold, rose gold, white gold or platinum however in recent years especially for men’s wedding bands there has been an increase in people wanting palladium, titanium and black zirconium which have a more contemporary look and very good durability.

Does my wedding band need to be plain?

There are no rules when it comes to what a wedding ring should look like. If you have an engagement ring with a lot of stones, then you may prefer a simpler wedding ring to not over power it. However, if you have a simple or solitaire engagement ring then you may want a diamond wedding band to add a bit more sparkle and create a stunning stack.

Who buys the wedding rings?

That’s up to you as well, as the engagement ring is typically picked out and payed for by one person as a surprise a lot of couples choose to pick wedding rings together and use a pool of money from both parties to pay. It can also be a meaningful experience to go together and help each other pick the perfect ring that suits each of you and your styles.

Should our wedding rings match?

Some couples have completely matching rings but you can also do it in a subtler way. You can have the same metal but different designs or the same design and different metals. If your personal styles are so different you can’t find a metal or design you both like, then you can always choose completely different rings which complement each of you and then just have a significant word, date or symbol that means a lot to the both of you engraved inside the band.
