A proposal is one of the biggest days in yours and your partners lives, one of the biggest components of this is finding the perfect ring that they can cherish forever. In this guide we will explain the 4 main styles of engagement rings and the symbols behind them.

Solitare

The most classic and timeless style, the solitaire setting. This setting features a single gemstone, usually a diamond, on a plain or more elaborate band of any metal. The gemstone can be of any cut but the most popular is a round brilliant cut, another elegant classic which will never be overshadowed by modern fashion trends. Some see the single stone to represent the singular love you have for each other. It is the perfect setting to show off a high quality diamond, especially one highly rated in the 4C's.

Cluster

A cluster setting features many small diamonds to either appear as one big stone or accentuate a larger center stone, also called a halo setting. This can be one of the best statement pieces, perfect for anyone who loves a sparkle. Any cut diamonds can be used for the cluster but the most common is round brilliant diamonds. As the cluster setting can come in many cuts and designs you are sure to find your own significance to you and your partner, for example some people see a halo as a symbol of everlasting love as there is no start or end to the ring of diamonds surrounding the centre stone.

Trilogy

This setting is often looked at to symbolize the past, present and future of a relationship. It usually features a larger center stone framed by 2 smaller stones on either sides. The framing stones can be the same or different cut. It can be a less sparkly alternative to a cluster for someone who may want a more understated ring. It’s another timeless classic that anyone will love for years.

Diamond Shoulders

This style can be combined with any of the previous settings to add even more sparkle. Diamond shoulders feature smaller diamonds going along the band each side of the centre stone. It’s the perfect way to add sparkle to any ring while still keeping an air of simplicity such as adding it to a simple solitaire setting or adding it to a cluster to get the maximum sparkle out of your ring.
